Project Description

Sheffield VeRse

Supported by Off The Shelf Festival and The Year of Making

Overview

Sheffield VeRse is a pop up poetry VR installation which allows users to explore Sheffield’s rich ecology of creative spaces through interactive 360 video and immersive soundscapes. From Hope Works music venue to Portland Works blacksmith’s, Sheffield VeRse allows you to ‘step inside’ the poets world as they guide you through their stories.

Made in collaboration with Opus Independents and Sheffield Hallam University with support for Arts Council England, Sheffield University, Off The Shelf and Year of Making.

  • 4 newly commissioned poems

  • Showcased at Sheffield Museums
  • Showcased at Theatre Delicatessen

Interactive VR Menu System

We created Sheffield VeRse within the Unity games engine where users could look at the 4 mini planets which represented each poem and decide which one to view. We used the gaze input control which meant as users looked and hovered over each mini planet, a sound bite would play which represented that particular experience such as a hammer on an anvil for Portland Works.

  • Unity Games Engine
  • AVPro Media Player Plugin
  • Mini Planet Sprite Sheets
  • Gaze Input Control
